. The Fortigate security appliance is an ICSA certified VPN, firewall, anti-virus and Intrusion Detection/Prevention device. It provides various levels of VPN encryption that not only allows secured tunneled communications between locations, but actually scans the traffic for viruses, worms, Trojans, Spyware and Intrusions in transit. This ability protects not only the corporate headquarters but all remote sites. Each remote office is also protected by the Fortigate appliances deployed. The Fortigate scans all SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, FTP and HTTP traffic in route for Malware that occurs outside the VPN tunnels as well.

 

The protection of the remote offices is a critical component in the security stance of Molinaro Koger. As with any remote connectivity solution the opening of an access point can create potential security concerns. Once a VPN connection is active it is as if that user and/or network is stationed inside the corporate office. A VPN can encrypt any type of traffic, including the undesirable. The controls and security at remote locations can be difficult to enforce, so the ability to decrypt the VPN traffic at the corporate office and scan it for Malware in transit is invaluable.
